The Department of State Services (DSS) has raised a fresh alarm about the plot by some people to disrupt the May 29 inauguration of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as the new President of Nigeria.
However, the DSS issued a warning on Thursday through its public relations officer, Peter Afunaya, saying that it would not abide by the will of the subversive forces behind the evil schemes.
DSS reportedly noted that those opposed to the inauguration planned to sabotage security authorities' attempts to ensure calm festivities as well as instill fear and panic among the general people.
The DSS advised participants, the media, and Civil Society Organizations to carefully follow security and civil etiquette throughout the events in order to counter the subversive forces. Additionally, it urged the public to avoid sensationalism, false alarms, slanted journalism, and other materials that can incite conflict and bloodshed before and after the exercises.
Additionally, persons who have no business at the Abuja venue for the inauguration and other locations in the states have been cautioned to avoid those places.
In a world press conference on May 18, 2023, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Chairman of the Presidential Transition Council (PTC) outlined plans for the Presidential inauguration, according to the statement. The President's inauguration on May 29, 2023 in Abuja is the main event of the proceedings. The majority of States will also swear in new governors on the same day.
The Service is however aware of subversive forces' efforts to interfere with the programs in several areas of the nation. In addition to undermining security authorities' efforts to ensure calm ceremonies, the goal is to instill dread and terror among the general people.
"In light of these, attendees, the media, and Civil Society Organizations are urged to rigorously abide by civil and security etiquette during the festivities. They are also encouraged to avoid sensationalism, fake news, false alarms, slanted reporting, and stories that raise unrest both before and after the drills. This is doubly so because such unwelcome actions will only help to undermine national cohesiveness and unity. Additionally, all unauthorized (and unaccredited) individuals are cautioned to avoid the event venues' restricted and specifically specified zones.
"The Service reiterates its prior appeal for the public to maintain tranquility and uphold the law. To ensure successful inaugurations, it will maintain its engagement with sister organizations in the meantime.
