Tawfiq Akinwale, the Labour Party's candidate for governor of Oyo State in the recently completed general election, claimed that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the APC's presidential candidate, had funded Peter Obi, the Labour Party's presidential candidate, in order to thwart Abubakar Atiku's ambition.

This was said by Akinwale during an interview with Yes FM, an Ibadan-based radio station, on the show "Gbagede Oro" on Wednesday. The Oyo LP governorship candidate stated in the seven minutes and 13 second interview, which was conducted in Yoruba, that "Pat Utomi was the one with the party's ticket to contest presidency from the beginning but Tinubu played a political card by telling Utomi to voluntarily give the party's ticket to Obi immediately he left PDP so that he can cripple Atiku's influence."
"As a result, Tinubu began funding Pat Utomi to sponsor Peter Obi's presidential campaign." However, once it reached a certain point, the campaign outperformed all expectations. He came to a halt. "Unknowingly," he added, "Peter Obi was used to achieve Tinubu's ambition." Akinwale stated that he does not like Tinubu but admires his political acumen, citing how he has maintained political relevance since 1999.
When asked about the Obidients, he stated, "They have claimed not to be politicians, but keyboard warlords." They acknowledged that they were at the party because of Peter Obi and that they will double cross anyone who opposes their candidacy. "They are not Labour Party members; in fact, we begged them to join the party, but they refused." They didn't even contested.
