Four persons have been remanded in prison by a Federal High Court sitting in Akure, Ondo State, over impersonation and examination malpractices in the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB).
According to punchng.com, the four persons are Timilehin Akinwale, Olayinka Mustapha, Peter Okereke, and Feranmi Adesuyi.
The prosecution counsel, Moses Osimhen, said the first three defendants committed tbe offence of impersonation on 15th February, 2023 during the UTME examination at a Computer-Based Test centre located at Aina Awaw International College, Ilu Abo, Akure, while Adesuyi committed the offence on 28th April at Amable Nigeria Limited CBT Centre in Owo, during the 2023 JAMB exams.
Osimhen told the court that the offences were contrary to Section 3 of the Examination Malpractices Act, 2004 and punishable under same section.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against them. The prosecutor asked the court to remand the suspects pending the date of the next hearing.
Clement Falana and Austin Agbounghale, the defendants' counsel, pleaded with the court to grant their clients bail, adding that the offences were bailable.
Justice T.B. Adegoke, the presiding judge, denied the bail and ordered that the suspects be remanded at the Olokuta Costodial Centre as he adjourned the case till 12th July, 2023, for further hearing.
